Making friend in social networks could be more dangerous than you think.

As we know, social media services, like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have caused a great change in our world. It allows us to easily connect to our family, friends or the entire world instantly. Moreover, if you want to know about the certain information, just put your question on social media space. Sooner or later you will get plenty of responses because social media users like to be helpful in order to attract other users and somehow they can become friends. But do these people aware of the fact that making friend online is more dangerous than trying to meet people face to face? The following factors are the disadvantages of making friend on the web; anybody could be lying about anything, online friends could use your personal information against you and you could become a victim of propaganda and scam.

First, anybody could be lying about anything such as what they look like, how old they are and where they live. Social media users have the ability to create a profile which lists relevant information about them. More and more people are sharing personal information to each other without cautiousness. Then how can we sure that the person we are interacting with is not lying since we never met any of them in person? It’s very easy to type reassuring words to someone who lives across the country without really meaning them and it’s not like the person on the other end can tell the difference. Please remember that everyone you met online can be anyone like a scammer, a criminal, a serial killer or the other unlawful people.

Second, online friends could use your personal information that you have shared with them against you. When you’re sharing things online, anyone can easily access to that information. Your privacy will be exposed. Your online friends can become your enemies and they can share it with the persons you don’t want them to know or they can use it against you. Once it happened, it’s hard to fix. You should never give any trust to the new friend that you’ve just met online just because he/she seem to be friendly or good-looking.

Finally, you can become a victim of propaganda and scam. These things brainwash many people. Since you have access to people online all day and night, it’s hard to avoid bad things that may happen to you. So please be careful and make good decisions. Use your common sense. If your sense tells you no, just believe it. In case you want to shop or do online business, please make sure that your business partner is trustful before you purchase anything or transfer your money to anyone.

Opponents of the danger of making friend on the web say that it teaches them how to interact with people and they may get to know many new things. This point has some merit on the surface. However, as stated previously, it may be easier to find a friend on the web than in real life, but the outcomes of making friends online can be very dangerous. And this can make you more isolated from the real world and it will lead you to a bad addiction.

In conclusion, if you are just looking for someone to share your thoughts, ideas and interests with, making friend online is okay, but it’s also has negative effects. So beware of whom you’re interacting with and do not expect a lifelong friendship from a stranger you met on the web. Therefore, everyone should get an idea of how to be more cautious and how to protect yourself from the dangers of making friend online.
